Look It Up!

CLEANERS CHICAGO

Question. Chicago IL - My brother-in-law works at an auto supply store. We were sitting around drinking a few beers and he started telling us that you could use brake cleaner to clean stains out of carpet and clothes. It was the Old Style talking, right? Or was he just trying to sell us some brake cleaner?

Answer. Looked it up and there are indeed some cleaning pros who agree with your brother-in-law. Although who is to say they weren’t also drinking a little Old Style when then they were communicating their cleaning wisdom. According to a couple of sources brake cleaner is chemically the same as the stuff professional drying cleaners use to take stains out of wool and silk and other dry-clean only fabrics. Another pro describes how you can dab a little brake cleaner onto a rag and use it to gently clean up many food stains from your carpet. It’s up to you, but I think I’ll just keep taking my silk underwear to the dry cleaners.
