Question. Chicago IL - These telemarketers keep calling us wanting to know if we want our concrete driveway sealed. Why would we? That driveway is hard as a rock! Concrete is hard as a rock! I’ve been elected to the city council. It’s not like I just fell off the turnip truck. I think these guys are scam artists. What do you think professor?

Answer - No thinking going on here on my end. But some of the professionals think there may be good reasons to seal concrete.
You’re right that concrete is hard as a rock, but it is also porous like a sponge. It absorbs water. It absorbs stuff spilled on it. It also can get kind of chalky with dust coming off of it. Try rubbing your hand across concrete that hasn’t been sealed. Sealers give the concrete a protective coat so that stains can’t easily penetrate the surface. Sealers also make it easier to clean up. Got any turnips left, counselor?
