CLEANING SUPPLIES DALLAS
Question. Dallas TX - My father with some of his old buddies have been having secret meetings. They plan to send defective products they buy at the local You-Know-Who Mart store back to the Chinese Embassy in Washington. I think they’ve already been sending product complaint letters and questions about how to use stuff to the Chinese Embassy. Dad says, “If they’re going to buy every darn thing from the Chinese at that store and sell it to us then we’re going to send our defective stuff right to the frickin’ Chinese Embassy!” I think they meeting out in some pine forest. He’s always coming home with pine resin on his jacket and on his “America Love It or Leave It” hat. It’s a sticky mess and I told my Mom I’d ask you to look up how to clean resin off of clothes and what kind of cleaning supplies we’ll need.
Answer - I am very pleased to tell you that there is a simple solution. It seems that rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) does a good job of loosening pine resin. Make sure that your Dad’s hat and jacket are colorfast so that the alcohol doesn’t wash out the fabric color. You can blot it out. One expert suggests laying the resin infected side face down on another cloth and blotting the area from the other side so the resin washes down into the other cloth. Seems to make sense. If your Dad catches you cleaning his hat you might not want to tell him that a lot of rubbing alcohol comes from China and India. Oh, well.
