Gutter Cleaning Los Angeles
Question. Los Angeles, CA - My storm trooper wife makes me pay her to clean our gutters. She’s not kidding! She makes my life miserable if I don’t pay her. Not a lot more miserable than if I don’t...come to think of it. I’m living a life of quiet desperation except there’s a lot of loud bitching. I keep thinking it would be cheaper to hire a hit man and a commercial cleaning service. Professor my question is this, “Do I have to pay employment tax on the money I pay her?” I don’t want to go to jail...probably.
Answer. I spend a lot of time keeping cleaning victims out of Los Angeles jails. From what I read you don’t need to pay taxes. Your wife or husband, kids or even parents are excepted from any need to pay employment taxes for household services they might provide. I’m not sure about a hit man. I would assume that such a person would be considered an independent contractor. But, of course, you shouldn’t hire one. That would be wrong as your Mr. Nixon said. Check with your accountant or a lawyer to be sure.
