Look It Up!

Janitor San Diego

Question. San Diego, CA - Professor, a secretary in our office offered to clean the oven in our break room. (We have a full range in addition to the microwave.) She wanted to make some extra cash to buy a new piano. The poor women went out and bought some kind of oven cleaner and started scrubbing the oven with a rag and this cleaner. Her hands started to disintegrate! They turned red and started to burn her. What did she do wrong?

Answer.
Excellent question for The Clueless Cleaner. Probably what she did wrong was trying to clean the office oven in the first place without cleaning knowledge and experience. Better leave that job to your janitorial service. The experts say that many oven cleaners contain lye, which is a powerful alkaline which can dissolve greasy buildups. That lye started burning her hands. If she insists on doing the job with that cleaner she should be wearing protective gear, at the very minimum rubber gloves and probably eye protection and more.
