Look It Up!

MAID CHICAGO

Question. Chicago, IL - This housekeeping lady we hired took all day to clean one bedroom! We pay her by the hour, Professor. I think we’re getting screwed! When we complain she just smiles and says, “Thank you.” She doesn’t speak English, except for saying thank you. My husband said he thought he heard her say cheeseburger once but I didn’t hear it. Are there any guidelines about how long it should take someone to clean a room?

Answer. One source suggested that a person should be able to clean a one-bedroom apartment in less than four hours. An average home might take 5 to 6 hours if it just has a single bath and three bedrooms. Of course, a really big home could take a whole day to clean house. By really big house I don’t think they mean the White House or something that size. Just a regular big house. Laundry, by the way might take at least 4 hours to do four loads of washing and drying. Hope that helps. A cheeseburger sounds good!
