Question. Houston TX - Our basement flooded again and we lost our 5th lap dog in the last 24 months. We kept Sugar in the basement at night and it just seems that Chihuahuas are not very good at treading water. My husband wants to get a larger dog, one with a head high enough to stay above the water. But the little Chihuahuas fit so nicely in my Mini Cooper when we’re traveling. Would it be easier to fix the basement, you know waterproof it, rather than rethink our entire pet lives? My husband says no.
Answer. There are other good reasons to fix that flooding problem. You may be getting harmful mold and bacteria in your home. Find out why your basement is flooding. You may need to do some work on your yard to make sure rain water is flowing away from your house. Your downspouts may require extensions. There are quite a few different basement water proofing cures floating around out there from baseboard systems that channel water to a floor drain to a sump pump. There are also coating materials for basement walls to keep water out. You might call a few waterproofing businesses and do your research before you open your wallet. My grandfather had a number of Chihuahuas. All of them were names Sugar and they all bit me on the ankles. You won’t see me at Sugar’s funeral.
