Look It Up!

WINDOW CLEANING CHICAGO

Question. Chicago, IL - My husband George has set up a regular observatory in our upstairs den where he spies on the neighbor lady. He’s got telescopes, binoculars, microscopes and some kind of night vision stuff. I don’t know what’s got into him but he shouldn’t think for one minute that I don’t know what he’s up to. I don’t think he’s looking to become an astronomer in his old age (even though the neighbor lady is shaped just like the planet Jupiter only fatter and with only one moon!) Well I got fed up with it and after George recently left on a two-week fishing trip in Canada with his buddies, I took a can of black spray paint and painted the den window. Now I’m having second thoughts. How do I get that paint off, Professor? Hurry!

Answer. You didn’t mention if that black paint was water-based or oil-based paint. Most of the experts seem to think you need to (carefully) use a razor blade to scrap it all off. If it is oil-based you might try softening it up with some solvent or lacquer thinner. Look on the side of the paint can for recommendations. For water-based paint try an equal amount of ammonia and warm water to loosen the paint before you scrap. Be careful with that razor!
